January 2026
January 2026
Happy 2026! January is already halfway over as I start to write this. I had so much fun doing December that it was hard for me to wait to do this one so I just decided to get started. I wish that I had a more creative nature because it seems that I like putting these together but I live a boring life so there isn't much more I could do.
I am already regretting cutting my hair. I feel like I have to wash it so much more and for some reason it's just not hitting the same as when I cut it the last times. I am having SUCH a hard time styling it and I feel very frustrated. But I thought it looked cute this day. I put so much product in it and it only looks good the first day that I do it so it's not super worth it but I felt cute that day.
I took myself on a date to one of my favorite places in the world, Le Bon Macaron. I like to go once in the winter and once around my birthday. I got a blueberry lavender french soda and it was the exact same color as my 2026 journal! I fill a journal every year. Unfortunately they are very boring because they are mostly full of to do lists and boring schedule things. I struggle to get myself to really write about my day. I did start a practice last year of writing what I did that day on a note card (one for every day) and now I'm excited to go through this year and compare to what I did last year. Being out in public in shops and bookstores and cafes makes me feel so inspired and productive. I always want to journal and reflect while I have a delicious treat. I listen to my music and daydream and just feel great afterward.
For Christmas/his birthday Levi asked for a skateboard and he also asked for a red hat and sunglasses. I believe he wanted the whole skater aesthetic and I just adored that he had this vision for himself. He looks awesome. These pictures were taken at a family get together for my dad's side of the family. We were celebrating Amber and Buddy's doctorates and winter birthdays (my mom, Levi, Buddy, and my cousin Zach). Funnily enough Buddy could not make it to this celebration because he was working.
New year's nails, slayyyyyyy
Cute winter makeup. I have been obsessed with glitter and sparkles. I'm trying to honor child Crowder's love of all things sparkly and glittery.
One big thing in January is that I bought myself a new desktop computer for work which has made sitting at my desk to work so much better. I also bought myself a recliner for the office in the hopes that I will sit there and read more often rather than laying down on our couch. I love love love my rainbow light keyboard!
This is my office tree that I leave up year round. It has pink bows, pink hearts, snowy pinecones, and silver and pink balls. I took this picture because Belly was unsettled by the new chair in my office and refused to come in for a while.
I shouldn't include so many selfies maybe. Like vanity is real. But also one day I will want to look back on when I was young (which is crazy cause I look at pictures of me in my 20s and I feel like I look SO OLD) but I was having a good skin day so why not. It's my blog so I can do whatever I want!
I started drinking bone broth in the mornings. Do you know if it actually does anything for you? It's really delicious and I like it. Unfortunately I am dealing with acid reflux still and I am learning that acid reflux is related to high estrogen and high levels of histamines (which is obviously related to my diet but I haven't figured out what to fully change yet) and bone broth is apparently high in histamines and my nose always feels stuffy after I drink it, so that's a bummer! We should talk more about this on a phone call because I think that I need to do a low inflammation diet and I know you have experience with that.
I met my old boss, Donovan, for lunch at a place in Brighton called Bourbon's. It has a very cool vibe. We meet for lunch every 6 months-a year. He's a fun person in my life because we will never be like close to the point where we talk on the phone and communicate a lot but I think we will always care about each other enough to do yearly check ins and I find that to be very special.
This is one of my big goals this year, to read Dostoevsky. I've done reading challenges for the past few years that have focused on how many books I read and that's pretty fun. But this year I wanted to change it up and so instead of focusing on numbers, I'm focusing on specific things I want to tackle. Dostoevsky has been on my list for a long time and I've never wanted to start because his books are huge and hard and it would take forever which would mess up my reading count. Thus why I got rid of my reading goal for this year. One of my other goals is also to read The Lord of the Rings trilogy, something I have never done.
I'm also currently rereading Little Women (which I finished, yay!) which is one of Abbi's favorite books. When I'm done I'll watch the movie and I'm so excited to do that because I loved it! The book was even better than I remembered, I cried at multiple times and flew through it. Have you read it? I would recommend it. Abbi is reading it to the boys right now and when I asked Levi about some of the characters he remembered Jo and Amy and I said "And one that rhymes with beg?" and he said "Egg???" and it's not that funny but it cracked me up in the moment.
One of the things I like to do from time to time is do a tarot spread and journal about it. I don't believe tarot cards are magic or tell the future. But I do think tarot is a fun, historical practice that has been used for so long and it's interesting to see the meaning in the cards. I just see what comes up and I read about what the cards mean and then I journal about how I could use that in my life or what I could take from it. It's just a self-reflection practice. This was my spread for the week of Monday, 1/25-Saturday, 1/31. I do the spread on Sunday and use that for the week and just see what I can take from it.
I've been trying to spend more time doing analog activities that aren't being on a screen and so last night I listened to music and colored this picture. It was fun, I felt like I was a kid again or something and it was a very soothing way to spend my time. I'm also trying to get away from the idea that my time needs to spent productively and so if I'm doing anything that I enjoy, I'm working on the idea that it IS productive because it's making me a happy and healthy person.
This is a video game that Buddy and I started playing together in January. I am OBSESSED with it. I'm not a natural gamer so it's always fun when a video game clicks for me and I get really into it. Also that's just a funny message that Buddy typed when he sent me the game because I made him add a message.
Trying to get used to wearing glasses again. I think I look cute in them but they hurt my nose and head sometimes because I'm just not used to having them on all the time.
Levi and Zeb get a "skip" day from school for their birthday. Since Levi's birthday is New Year's Eve he ends up taking it way later than his actual birthday. We were supposed to do it last week but they had a snow day! I was lucky enough to get to hang with Lev for this year's skip day. He wanted to go to ZouZous which is Chelsea's local cafe and I love it so much. I asked him for a picture and he insisted on it being when he was drinking his chocolate milk. We went to breakfast and then went to the library after.
I need to start taking more pictures because I think a blog is fun with pictures but I don't remember very often! Yesterday Noah came over and we got pizza and watched Daredevil (the tv show) together since we're watching it through together. And then after my friends Amanda and Myles came over and we all played DnD together in our basement. And that's how I ended January!

If you're interested, I listened to eight albums in January for my year of albums challenge:
- You Signed Up for This - Maisie Peters (mom)
- Come On Over - Shania Twain (Kaci, my friend from high school)
- Jagged Little Pill - Alanis Morrisette (Buddy)
- i, i - Bon Iver (Courtney)
- Who's the Clown? - Audrey Hobert (Kaci)
- Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway - Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway (Amber Olney)
- WE ARE - Jon Batiste (Stacey)
- A Hangover You Don't Deserve - Bowling for Soup (Buddy)
I randomized all of the suggestions I got (97!) and Kaci and Buddy's all came up early.
