December 2025

Hello HJR!

This blog is a labor of love solely for you. I fear my life is not as interesting as yours because I will rarely have cute kids featured or themes of any kind. It'll likely be lazy and messy but I will enjoy creating it for you.

Let's see, how shall we start off...

Just a beautiful coffee that I made in a Christmas cup. This is honestly a lot of what the blog is going to be. I'm so boring!

These were my top songs in 2025. It's a little misleading because I stopped using Spotify at the end of the year because I'm not a huge fan of their politics (but even more so because I'm incredibly cheap and I never paid for Spotify premium and got frickin sick of their ads) but I do really love all of these songs.

Oh my gosh, I was so sad this day. Buddy and I got into a fight. Life happens, you know. I know what you're thinking, why didn't I reach out? I just didn't feel ready to talk about it. But I like this picture because Belly knew I was sad and came and snuggled me and it made me feel really cared about.

We went to Bronner's! I bought two things: a nativity set and a butterfly ornament. I oddly enough have never owned a nativity and I was just feeling like a really bad Christian for only having beautiful, commercial Christmas decorations. But also the one person in my life who had many nativities was my Grandma Gracie and since she died this year, it felt like a nice homage to get one.

Buddy and I each pick out one ornament every year and sometimes it's just whatever we like or whatever we want but other times we do something to represent our years. Buddy got an owl with a graduation cap and a diploma since he got his doctorate. I got this butterfly because Grandma Gracie loved butterflies so it reminds me of her.

Just cute dog pictures and of my beautiful Christmas house.

Buddy's parents and Micaela's family came to Chelsea to celebrate his doctorate. On the same weekend I agreed to do a Christmas music practice for my nephews at my dad's church. The Christmas music rehearsal is one of me and my siblings' fondest memories from childhood. We'd get to go to church on a Saturday in JEANS like regular clothes and we would goof around and practice music and then have a pizza party. It was really magical and so I wanted to do that for my nephews. Here they are with the other kiddos practicing bells. Afterwards they had pizza and cookies and Abbi and I made little stockings filled with goodies for them.

Later that day (what a freaking long day) we went to dinner to celebrate Buddy's DOCTORATE. You probably saw these pics on Instagram but a December recap wouldn't feel the same without it so I'll post them again.

I just like this picture. We were laughing at the envelope because the handwriting was so bad that Buddy thought Zeb had written it but my dad had.

He gave a speech and he cried and it was like the best speech in the whole world. Especially because it's Buddy who never talks and is never emotional.

This was just makeup I was proud of. You probably can't see but I put stars in the corners of my eyes!

Buddy made a yule log cake. I was really excited for this because I know you make one and I LOVE the winter solstice. I love all of the equinoxes and solstices but the winter solstice is my favorite. It came out fat and stumpy but still delicious. It turned out to be a nightmare because two nights in a row he spilled cocoa powder on the floor and Belka licked it up. The first night we gave her hydrogen peroxide and she threw it up. The second night we gave her hydrogen peroxide and she never threw up so I was convinced that we had killed her. It was such a stressful weekend and part of why I went MIA in December. I just don't handle my dog stress very well. And sadly Buddy made this cake for our DnD group and we had to cancel since Belka got sick so they didn't even get to eat it. (I did though, it was super good even though its creation was CURSED).

Abbi and I hung out at Noah's house and his cat, Meeko, curled up on my lap! Every time we go to his house Meeko hates me and loves Abbi. I apparently have bad cat energy because I'm just so excited to see them that I want to snuggle them and play with them but cats prefer people who don't really give a crap. So this was a big deal that he sat in my lap.

Most Christmas Eves (we've only missed like two) the five of us sing a Christmas song at the Christmas Eve service at my dad's church and then sometimes we go to Silver Maples (the retirement home where my dad is a chaplain) and we sing it there. A couple of years ago Zeb joined us in singing which is so special. We sing the same part because I sign the soprano part and his voice is still really high. We could not reach the notes very well and sounded squeaky and he made me bust up laughing at the end of the song so that was a good memory.

Every year Buddy and I exchange a Funko pop character on Christmas Eve. Sometimes we just do characters we like and sometimes we do characters that are specific to that year. I got him Gonzo as Charles Dickens from The Muppet's Christmas Carol since that is his favorite Christmas movie and our family's Christmas theme this year was The Muppet's Christmas Carol. He got me the best one I've ever received because he handed me one and it was my favorite character, Rumi, from my favorite movie this year, KPOP Demon Hunters. I am OBSESSED with it and I wanted this character but they weren't supposed to come out until February. Buddy ordered me all 3 so that I'd have them for next year. By some Christmas miracle ALL THREE of them came on Christmas Eve so he swapped out the one he was going to give me for Rumi and then surprised me with the other two. It was a magical present moment and he was very proud of himself.

Cute Christmas nails (duh)

Buddy's family has a celebration every year on the Saturday after Christmas called Pollywogs (named after the camp where they meet). It is like 5.5 hours away so we normally don't go but Buddy's Uncle John passed this year and it was important to his dad that he go. I normally go with him but with Belka being sick I didn't want to be apart from her that long. This worked out well because Abbi and Jeremiah's car broke down and Jeremiah had to ride with Buddy anyway. Pollywogs was Saturday, 12/27 and on Monday, 12/29 Buddy threw up and got super sick. We think he got the flu. I lived in terror that I would get it but I washed my hands and sanitized like crazy and I NEVER DID (another Christmas miracle).

Unfortunately it was bad timing as on Tuesday, 12/30 Buddy was sick for his 37th birthday. Buddy does not like his birthday so this really wasn't a big deal for him. His only birthday tradition is that he insists on putting the same number of candles into a cake as the age he is turning. He hopes that one day he will be old enough to set his cake ablaze with flame. He walked downstairs out of bed for this ritual and then walked back up into bed. Buddy is very committed to tradition.

We were supposed to have my whole family over on Wednesday, 12/31 to celebrate Levi's 7th birthday and play board games for NYE. Since Buddy was sick we had to cancel and nobody came over. I was sad but not too bad. Buddy and I still made some yummy foods, we watched a few NYE themed episodes of sitcoms (Friends, How I Met Your Mother, 30 Rock, That 70s Show, Frasier) and then we watched Stranger Things. It was still a very nice night.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, HAPPY  JANUARY, I LOVE YOU
